These 7 enamel jewelry artists will have you reaching for trivets and sifters! The patience required just to go through the mechanical processes required of most types of enameling — fill, fire, repeat (not to mention soldering wire cells to a metal base and potentially bezel setting) — is humbling.  The artists below must be gods of patience — they raise the bar with their deep knowldge of color and form. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

  1. Michael Romanik
Romanik’s pieces are the reflection of an exacting technician’s fabrication facility combined with a mater of color. Read his personal statement to trace his work’s evolution.
  2. Ruth Ball
Ball uses absolutely luminous layers, sometimes even what I would call “delicate geometry” in her pieces.
  3. Justyna Kus
Kus used walnut and white ash for the ring structure on this pin, then attached enamelled metal with little screws, to create what she calls “Painted Ladies,” based on the famous San Francisco rowhouses.
  4. Anne Havel
Super interesting work. See these rings, “Lopsided Tears“, from her Canvas Series.
  5. Kristina Glick
Some links on the site seem to be having trouble, but just watch the slideshow on her homepage.  Richly colored and surprisingly varied work.
  6. Nicolette Absil
Absil’s work is often botanical and renderings are insanely delicate and precise.
  7. Linda Lundell
I love Linda’s soft and sometimes moody pieces.  Her “Meadow of Trees” brooch is magnificent.
